Description
While on patrol one foggy evening, Game Warden Mike Bowditch receives a call for help. A woman has reportedly struck a deer on a lonely road. When he arrives on the scene, he finds blood — but the driver and the deer have vanished. The state trooper assigned to the accident appears unconcerned. Details of the disappearance are eerily familiar. Seven years earlier, Erland Jefferts was convicted of the rape and murder of a college student and sentenced to life in prison. It seemed that justice had been served. But when the missing woman is found brutalized in a manner that suggests Jefferts may have been framed, Bowditch reopens the case — and the old wounds between Maine locals and rich summer residents. As Bowdich closes in on his quarry, he discovers how dangerous and powerful his opponents are.
